The New Scheme is a quarterly music magazine. By “magazine” we mean a collection of ones and zeros, which make up a PDF and web-based version of each issue. This website hosts each issue of The New Scheme, as well as companion pieces, and blog posts between issues. Also, the New Scheme Mixtape, features tracks from bands featured in the most recent issue, if you’re into that sort of thing. We also cover other cultural happenings, surrounding—or at least somehow related to— music. We do not, have not, and will not, cover fashion. You can call it “youth culture,” and we’re still not covering it. There are plenty of other publications to do that. And, more importantly, it’s fucking stupid.
Getting Involved:
The New Scheme is a collaborative effort. It is impossible without music to cover, and people to cover it. If you are interested in having your music covered in The New Scheme, please send it to the address on the “contact” page. We prefer physical records, though digital submissions are also accepted.
We are also always looking for help with creating each issue. If you want to help as a feature/interview writer, reviewer, columnist, photographer, or anything related, please get in touch.
History:
The New Scheme was born in the year 2000, as yet another newsprint fanzine. It remained as such, well into the second half of the decade (and long after that sort of thing was common). After deciding we’d outgrown newsprint, we switched to slightly more desirable offset printing. Along the way—and at least a few years late—we slowly embraced a paperless alternative to the printed issues. As the PDF version of each issue became more popular, the printed version was becoming more expensive. Issue #19 was the first all-digital issue. Our goal now is to find a way to bridge the gap between an up-to-the-moment blog and a proper magazine. This website is the beginning of that process.
